Blogger Shout-Out: Valerie from Mabuhay Tisay

Today I want to introduce you to a blog which I really enjoy reading. As some of you may know, I grew up with two nationalities: My mother is from the Philippines and my father is from good old Germany. And this – very interesting blog – is about the Philippines, which was founded by half Filipina and half German blogger Valerie. If you would like to know more about Valerie and her blog then you should read the following interview:

Hello Valerie, can you tell us a little about yourself and where you live?

My name is Valerie, I’m 30 years old and halfFilipina. I was born and raised in a small town in the southern part of lower saxonyAfter finishing my studies I went to Munich because of professional reasons and I currently work here as a beauty online editorI always wanted to combine my passion for writing with my job.

What inspired you to start your blog and how long have you been blogging?

I started in 2003 with my first blog. Some friends who I’ve met online through some online projects showed me the blogging plattform www.livejournal.comBy using private blogs to keep in touch and each other up-to-date, I started to love blogging. This is why I wrote my own livejournal for nearly nine years and in this time I got to know many lovely people. But then I decided to end my private blog and to start a public blog. It was also a professional decision, because as an editor, it’s really important today to build an onlinepresence. After some time of considering which subject I wanted to focus on, I decided to concentrate my blog on the Philippines. So far I only know German-speaking blogs that deal with the subject travelling in the Philippines. I wanted to show that there are more interesting topics – not only travelling.

Which blog post is your favorite and why?

I like my blogger-series, where I introduce other German-speaking bloggers with Filipino background (http://www.mabuhay-tisay.de/category/philippinische-blogger/). Simply for the reason that I’m personally very interested in how many of those bloggers are out there. And it’s so exciting to see what they’re blogging about and to get in touch with them.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

From different sources. From other blogsfrom media (TV, print), told stories  I often write about things I’m curious about and I want to learn more about. For example the blog postabout popular tisoys and tisays in the music industry (http://www.mabuhay-tisay.de/musikalische_tisoys/). I was curious if there are any international singers with Filipino background.

What do you love about the Philippines and why?

What I like most about the Philippinesthe FilipinosI like the mentality of the people very much. Everybody feels, that they love life and they always see everything in a positive way. Sometimes I wish more Germans would be like that: Not like grumpy cat but rather enjoying the beautiful sides of live! And of course I love the Filipino food, the beaches, the sea and the climate.

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

To write on a regular basis and to delight my readers constantly with my new content.

In the year 2017 you will be:

Hopefully I can look back on my vacation in the Philippines and still writing my blog.
